Twitter/@CBSSportsCBB Twitter/@CBSSportsCBBThis weekend featured some fantastic college basketball, but no moment matched Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, where Duke pulled off a huge come from behind win over St. John’s to clinch win number 1000 for head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Coach K became the first coach in division one history to eclipse that milestone, and he did it behind a gritty effort by Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, and the rest of his Blue Devils team. With the win, and an early-week blowout loss for Villanova to Georgetown, Duke is once again in the top five in both polls. Here are both the AP and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls.RankAP PollCoaches Poll1.KentuckyKentucky2.VirginiaVirginia3.GonzagaGonzaga4.DukeDuke5.WisconsinWisconsin6.ArizonaArizona7.VillanovaVillanova8.Notre DameNotre Dame9.KansasLouisville10.LouisvilleUtah11.UtahKansas12.Wichita StateWichita State13.North CarolinaMaryland14.VCUNorth Carolina15.Iowa StateVCU16.MarylandIowa State17.West VirginiaWest Virginia18.Northern IowaNorthern Iowa19.TexasBaylor20.BaylorTexas21.GeorgetownIndiana22.IndianaGeorgetown23.MiamiMiami24.Oklahoma Colorado State25.ButlerArkansas

San Francisco: Adding video to a tweet can pull 10 times more engagements than tweets without video, the micro-blogging platform has revealed. Tweets with images attract 150 per cent more re-tweets than tweets without images and even tweets with a GIF gain 55 per cent more engagement than those without a GIF, according to Twitter for Business. Along with emojis, GIFs are one of the primary ways people communicate online. “While it’s easy to use an existing GIF to complement your tweet copy, many marketers don’t realise how simple it is to create their very own original, branded GIF,” Nick Reese wrote in a Twitter for Business blog post. Another feature that’s often overlooked is the phone’s video screen capture ability. “Stop motion is the foundation for animation. With your phone, creating a stop motion video is as simple as taking a photo, moving the object slightly, taking another photo, and repeat,” Reese suggested. WINNIPEG – The agreement to restore rail service to the town of Churchill in northern Manitoba will include at least $117 million from the federal government. The federal funding consists of $74 million to help repair the damaged rail line and buy it, along with the town’s port, from Denver-based Omnitrax. Ottawa is also committing another $43 million over 10 years to subsidize operations of the rail line.“Repair work on the rail line has already begun … and every effort is being made to complete the work and restore rail service before winter sets in,” International Trade Diversification Minister Jim Carr said at a news conference Friday that offered few details on what others involved in the deal are putting up.The rail line is the only land link to the subarctic community of 900 people, known for its polar bear tourist season and port on the western shore of Hudson Bay.The line was washed out by flooding in the spring of 2017. Since then, goods and people have had to be flown in and prices for groceries and fuel have skyrocketed. The tourist economy was hit hard, and some residents left town. Two weeks ago, after months of negotiations, a consortium called Arctic Gateway Group hammered out a deal to buy the line and port from Omnitrax, which had said it was losing money on the service and could not afford tens of millions of dollars in necessary repairs. The consortium includes several northern communities, Toronto-based Fairfax Financial Holdings and AGT Food and Ingredients, a Regina-based supplier of pulses and food ingredients.Carr and consortium officials would not reveal Friday how much money the consortium partners are putting in — they referred to an unspecified pool of money — or how much money Omnitrax is being paid.Carr would also not say whether the federal government would put up more money if its annual subsidies are not enough to prevent losses.“You don’t talk about hypotheticals in this business.”The rail line was once government-owned, but a former Liberal government sold it to Omnitrax in 1997. The rail line suffered from high maintenance costs due to the vast boggy terrain it covers, and lost a key customer when the Conservative government in 2012 moved to end the Canadian Wheat Board monopoly on western wheat.Carr said the new ownership group, which includes a built-in customer base with AGT, will make the rail line viable.Fairfax’s president was equally confident the restored line and port has untapped opportunities to ship goods to and from other countries through the Arctic.“The Russians — we have roughly 50,000 people north of the Arctic circle, they have a million and a half people and I said, 20 per cent of their GDP (goes) through there,” Paul Rivett said.Churchill Mayor Mike Spence said the months that have passed without rail service have been hard on the town. But people from other parts of Canada reached out.“I had people sending food hampers … high school students sending cards and school supplies,” Spence said. “So we never felt alone.”
Beijing: In a bid to curb piracy, China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba has come up with ‘video fingerprints’ technology that gives each original video a unique online identity. Short videos have become a popular form of advertisement for sellers on Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms Taobao and Tmall. But the videos are often left unpatented due to a cumbersome process, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday. To curb this malpractice, Alibaba’s security lab has created ‘fingerprints’ for all original videos on Taobao and Tmall, said He Yuan, a senior algorithm expert at the lab. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal The fingerprints can be used to identify the video even if it is trimmed or its images modified, he added. Businesses participating in the project can upload their videos and have ‘fingerprints’ generated automatically. Once qualified as an original video, any other videos with high similarity will be reported to the business owner. After being online for about a month, more than 7,000 businesses have signed up to participate in the project, said Alibaba.

McGuff-led Ohio State has never shied away from playing some of the top teams in the county in its early season nonconference schedule. That will not change this year. The Buckeyes will challenge themselves again this season as the kick off the 2017-18 campaign with top-10 matchups against No. 10 Stanford at 6 p.m. Friday at St. John Arena and versus No. 9 Louisville at 4 p.m. Sunday at Nationwide Arena. “It’s always a big game coming right out,” senior guard Kelsey Mitchell said. “But I think we’ve prepared ourselves. I think we’ve done everything that we needed to prepare for a team like Stanford. It’s all about just going out there and trying to do it.”Though Ohio State returns most of the core players on a team that made the Sweet 16 last season, McGuff said he never truly knows what the team will look like until it steps onto the court for the first regular season game.“We’re going to find out something. We’re going to find out where we’re at one way or another,” McGuff said. “They have a great team, they’re one of the best in the country. We aspire to compete with those types of teams, so we’re going to find out where we’re at.” Ohio State redshirt junior guard Sierra Calhoun drives into the lane during the Buckeyes’ 110-80 exhibition win against Ashland on Oct. 29. Credit: Colin Hass-Hill | Sports EditorThe stakes are high for the No. 5 Ohio State women’s basketball team. If the Buckeyes fulfill their potential and advance further in the tournament than they have since 1993, they could play host to the Final Four. But if things go wrong, Ohio State could be looking at an early exit from the NCAA tournament and a bleak future, since the team will graduate five key players.Since head coach Kevin McGuff arrived in 2013, Ohio State has yet to reach beyond the Sweet 16, where its season ended the past two years. Preseason All-American guard Kelsey Mitchell has led Ohio State in scoring the past three years and will once again be the offensive catalyst in her final collegiate season. The preseason Big Ten Player of the Year leads a high-paced offense which averaged 85.7 points per game last season, the fourth-most in the country. A first-team All-American in 2016 and a second-team All-American in 2015 and 2017, Mitchell has owns the program record for most points in a single season (889 in 2015-16) and the Big Ten record for most career 3-pointers made (368). Though she would need to average more than 27 points per game, which she has never done in a single season, Mitchell has a chance to break former Washington guard Kelsey Plum’s NCAA record for most career points scored. The 5-foot-8 guard led the Big Ten with 22.6 points per game last season.“She’s an unbelievable player,” McGuff said. “It’s great to see her get the recognition she truly deserves. There’s not a person in college basketball working harder than she is. Those results have been shown on the court. She’s a great kid, great leader, and an unbelievable work ethic.”Mitchell will be joined in the starting lineup by three guards and one post player, redshirt senior Stephanie Mavunga. Mavunga was honored as a preseason All-Big Ten selection and was picked for the second-team All-Big Ten last season, despite missing 13 games due to injuries. She became the third player in program to average a double-double last season with 11.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.Guards Linnae Harper, Sierra Calhoun and Asia Doss will accompany Mitchell and Mavunga in the starting five. Harper enters the starting lineup after being named the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year last season. Though Harper stands just 5-foot-8, the redshirt senior offers Ohio State the ability to use her as a guard or inside due to her scrappy style. The former Kentucky transfer averaged 8.4 points and five rebounds per game last season.Calhoun, one of the team’s top shooters, started every game last season and put up 9.5 points per game. She will play a similar role to last year — when she was second on the team with 68 3-pointers made and first with 38.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc— as an off-ball shooter. The team’s most effective defender, Doss finished with 41 steals last game and will be one of the key components of an Ohio State defense which must improve.Last season, the Buckeyes gave up an average of 71.5 points per game, 313th-best in the country. McGuff has focused on improving defense and rebounding in the offseason with the hope of correcting the team’s most prominent weakness.“Overall, our defense has just not been good,” Mitchell said at media day on Oct. 10. “I’m not going to lie to you, it’s been bad all four years I’ve been here. We’ve been good in spurts, but it’s bad because we can’t piece it together for the whole season.”Though Ohio State possesses a talented starting lineup, its depth leaves much to be desired as it has just nine players on scholarship, two of which have scarcely played. The graduation of forward Shayla Cooper and transfers of a pair of talented freshmen — guard Kiara Lewis and forward Tori McCoy — left Ohio State with less-than-optimal depth. Any key injury during the season could devastate the Buckeyes.Senior forward Alexa Hart and redshirt junior forward Makalyla Waterman will be the two most important players off the bench, but both have dealt with injuries which kept them on the bench for the first of two exhibition games. Hart, a 6-foot-3 post player, will be key for situations in which Mavunga gets in foul trouble. A stretch forward, Waterman will help replace Cooper, who averaged 10.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season.McGuff has heralded sophomore guard Jensen Caretti as someone who had a good offseason and could make a substantial leap. She played 17 games last season, but scored just 40 points and dished 20 assists.“We need her to be good,” McGuff said at media day on Oct. 10. “We need her to step up and to have the season she’s capable of having.”
