FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享Bloomberg:A boom in solar power is threatening to wipe out $1.4 billion a year of summertime revenue for fossil-fuel generators in Texas.Almost 15 gigawatts of solar power may crop up in the Lone Star state in the coming years, and every gigawatt stands to shave about $2.76 a megawatt-hour from wholesale electricity prices there when demand peaks in the summer, an analysis by Bloomberg New Energy Finance shows. This could end up dealing a major blow to fossil fuel-burning generators that rely on those peak prices to weather the lulls in demand through the rest of the year. The Texas market is “especially vulnerable to the impact of solar penetration because the region relies so heavily on a handful of high-priced hours each year—and because those hours tend to align with solar production,” BNEF analyst Joshua Danial said in the report. The looming threat to natural gas- and coal-fired plants in Texas mirrors the shifts that renewable energy has brought on in other markets. To be sure, the solar surge in Texas won’t happen overnight. BNEF projects 1.8 gigawatts of new solar capacity by 2020.More: New Solar Capacity A Major Threat To Texas Coal Generators New Solar Capacity a Major Threat To Texas Coal Generators
By Dialogo June 14, 2010 Military personnel will reinforce the police to fight the growing crime wave that has led to a spate of daily killings in Honduras, according to a decree approved by the Honduran Congress. The decree establishes that “the Secretary of Defense will put at the disposal of the Secretary of Security the appropriate personnel of the Honduran Armed Forces needed for the National Police to efficiently maintain public order.” According to the decree, the National Police and the armed forces will coordinate their activities with the other state security organs in order to ensure “the prevention and control of and the fight against crime, for the purpose of protecting lives and property within the national territory.” The police, around 14,000 strong, have found themselves powerless to stop the wave of killings, linked chiefly to drug trafficking and kidnappings, of which there have been about forty-four so far this year, so that the help of the 12,000 members of the armed forces is required.
55SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr With record student loan balances and rampant underemployment, millennials have largely become known as the recession generation. Despite low levels of income and a median net worth below that of their predecessors, a 2014 report from The Shullman Research Center reveals a surprising 23 percent of today’s millionaires are millennials.Contrary to dreary doomsday forecasts, the opportunity to succeed is still very much available to members of Gen Y. Here are 10 tried and true strategies for making the transition from stereotypical broke millennial to millionaire.1. Uncover OpportunityThe real estate market downturn of 2007 was painful for many American homeowners, but for Brenton Hayden it was the start of a multi-million dollar opportunity. In an article for Entrepreneur, Hayden wrote about how he helped people rent and manage their properties and founded the residential property management company Renters Warehouse, which profited $966,803 in the first year. By age 27, Hayden was able to retire a multi-millionaire.Rather than running from real estate during the housing crisis, Hayden looked at how the industry was changing and where the opportunity was within that shift. Uncovering new opportunities and developing better approaches can be monetized into millions if you have a taste for industry-altering innovation. continue reading »
My first job after college was as a help desk service representative in an insurance company. I knew it wasn’t a position I wanted to be in long term, but it was a way to get my foot in the door. After working in that position a few months, I realized I wanted to work toward a leadership role. It seemed so glamorous–having the authority to make decisions, being in charge of a department, and making more money. Setting my sights on leadership seemed like the next best step.As I moved up the leadership ranks in my career, I realized leadership was very different from my first impression. It wasn’t about prestige, power, money or authority. It was about service, humility, relationships and influence. In fact, being a leader wasn’t as exciting and glamorous as I had expected. It came with a lot of responsibility, a lot of headaches, and some choices that weren’t always easy to make. There were many moments of impact and fulfillment, but there were also times of high demands and high stress.I had the blessing of having a few excellent leaders in my career who modeled great leadership through coaching, developing and mentoring. I also had several bosses who taught me what not to do. These leaders were focused on themselves—how much power and control they had and how to expand their turf. Although working for the latter wasn’t inspiring or easy, I learned from these experiences. Not everyone is cut out to be a leader, and having the desire to lead and the skills to lead are two different things. Having the desire to be a leader is important, but desire must be met with modern and influential leadership skills.Leadership isn’t about working our way up the corporate ladder to one day finally arrive and say, “Wow, I’ve made it.” True leadership is a journey, not a destination. Leadership is a state of being, not a role one fills while at work. The work toward leadership isn’t just important for when we prepare for a leadership role. In fact, once “appointed” to a leadership role, the real work has just begun. continue reading » 10SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr
For most marketers, getting a handle on data analytics is an obvious need. Recent studies say that greater than 70% of marketers see the need. The challenge is, they have never done it. And given the reality that “no one wants to fail,” many don’t begin. Others find themselves asking, when will I have the time to do this along the 273 other tasks and obligations already on my “to-do” list.Data isn’t going anywhere. And most everyone knows that the need for analytics is rising to meet the availability of this data. So, where do you start? My hope is that the following roadmap offers you some guidance. If you have never employed data analytics in marketing, you need first to understand what the software tools that help collect and analyze your account data, do and why. Often, this analytics software is called an MCIF system. The term, “MCIF” is an acronym for Marketing Central Information File. Essentially, it is a database that pulls in data from all of your internal loan and deposit systems. As you may know, you have many internal databases that manage the transactions unique to your specific loans and deposits. This means that data is held in multiple, independent silos. None of it has been combined to offer a full view of a client relationship. This is the first thing an MCIF does.Want to learn more? Would you invest 30 minutes to maybe an hour? Most of your peers won’t. If you want to rise above your competitors and elevate your personal value to your credit union (or the next credit union which will value your knowledge more), then invest the time. I promise to make it easy and fun.I have pulled together e-books, fun videos and white papers that illuminate the value of data and analytics. Access this wealth of knowledge in one place, here.Once you have a basic idea of what data analytics means and why you may want to employ it, seek out folks you know, and ask them about their experiences. How are they addressing this growing need for data analytics? Your credit union associations offer plenty of vendor resources on-line. Also, look for articles in the trade press that help illuminate the benefits and pitfalls further. Talk to vendors. They will share more than you can imagine. Each vendor wants you to become educated on what is possible, how to do it and how their solution will help you accomplish your goals. You need to understand all of this to get what you want.Data isn’t going anywhere. And most everyone knows that the requirement for analytics is rising to meet the availability of this data. As you may know, the C-Suite across credit union land is growingly interested in the information, action and certain results that data analytics delivers. So, where do you start? If you avail yourself of the data analytics resources in this article, your journey has already begun. Congratulations, you just got started with Data Analytics!Check out the resource page now. You will even be able to access case studies and personal copies of one or more of my books. 39SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr,Jay Kassing Jay Kassing is President of MARQUIS, a Texas based provider of marketing analytics solutions including MCIF/CRM software, MCIF services, profitability, compliance, consulting and direct mail creative/fulfillment.
