first_img… GCB secretary backing batsman to face upcoming fitness examBy Clifton RossGUYANA Cricket Board (GCB) secretary Anand Sanasie says Windies batsman Shimron Hetmyer has the full support of the board, as he prepares to undergo another fitness examination to possibly return to action in Round 5 of the Regional 4-Day tournament.Sanasie, who is also a director at Cricket West Indies (CWI) told Chronicle Sport yesterday in a brief interview following the release of the squad, which included Hetmyer, that the batsman has nothing but the fullest support from the GCB ahead of the upcoming retesting as well as his possible return to action against the Windward Volcanoes. The dashing left-hander alongside Evin Lewis made headlines last week as two of the high-profile Windies players, who were recently omitted ahead of this Saturday’s kickoff to the Sri Lanka series. The duo flopped the Windies Fitness Test, running below the regulation 40-mark on the Yo-Yo Tests, thus resulting in their axing from the squad. With no sight of the Berbican in Round 4, GCB secretary then stated that ex-U-19 World Cup winning skipper was overlooked for the Jamaica Scorpions clash which the Champs lost, due to the fact that he had not reported to Franchise management upon his return home from international duties.GCB secretary Anand SanasieWith a new assessment date of February 14, the left-hander was seen putting in some vigorous work-out sessions with physio Neil Barry Jr at the stadium during the Jaguars/Scorpions match last week; conditioning himself ahead of this Friday’s re-testing.Yesterday, the 23-year-old was named in the Jags squad for tomorrow’s 5th round battle against the Volcanoes. The defending champions, thanks to their mindboggling 7-run loss on Sunday at the hands of Jamaica, have dropped to second place with 49 points, with Barbados Pride taking their number one spot after accumulating an aggregate of 65.2 points.Regarding his inclusion for the important Round 5 battle in Antigua, Sanasie said, “I’m looking forward to seeing Hetmyer back in the Guyana team, Shimron is always welcome in the Guyana Jaguars set-up. I also want him to attain his required fitness level and get back into the side and play cricket for the West Indies in all three formats (Test, ODI and T20); because he is a good player,” stated the GCB executive. After doing the hard work and nudging the Trinidad Red Force off the points standings to reclaim their number 1 spot, Guyana faltered in the last round, losing the nail-biter to the last-placed Jamaicans which makes their title chase even more tense. Now, with the 4-Day tourney officially reaching its half-way stage, Guyana will be keen on winning every game from here, should they seek to retain their title for a record sixth year.Hetmyer’s return to national colours is also a good thing for the Jaguars who will be desperate to improve their mixed batting performances to date and Sanasie confirmed that the batsman will receive the full backing of the GCB going forward.“We’re (GCB) looking forward to seeing Shimron back in Guyana colours. He will always have the full support of the Board. Hetmyer is one of the best batsmen in the Region and we want to ensure that he returns to the top of his game,” Sanasie ended.last_img read more

first_imgShare on: WhatsApp Jurgen Klopp is relieved to have his Liverpool squad back togetherLondon, United Kingdom | AFP |  Jurgen Klopp admitted on Sunday that it has been a “massive lift” to see his Liverpool squad back training together as they prepare for the return of the Premier League. The English top flight is set to restart on June 17 and teams have been able to resume group training after weeks of isolation due to the coronavirus lockdown. It has been an especially frustrating time for Liverpool boss Klopp, whose side were two wins away from clinching the Premier League title when the season was halted because of the pandemic in March.“We never had nine weeks without football training in our lives since we played football, pretty much. That’s all different but interesting as well,” Klopp told Liverpool’s website.“We enjoy the situation, that’s really all good. And it makes all the difference for us, to be honest, to come together and have this hour or two here together.“You get this contact, feedback as well on the pitch directly, not via a computer or a screen. It’s a massive, massive lift.”Liverpool have a 25-point lead over second placed Manchester City, putting their first English title for 30 years within touching distance if the season does restart. The Reds’ first game back is scheduled to be the Merseyside derby against Everton and Klopp is building his players’ fitness towards that date.“We don’t have to be match-fit now. We try it with increasing intensity, day by day, but we have to be fit on the 19th or 20th, whichever day they will give us against Everton, I think,” Klopp said. “That’s the moment when we want to be at 100 percent. It’s round about three weeks until then, that’s good. We want to use that and we will.“It’s our pre-season; how I said, we don’t expect a long break in between the seasons, so this is a very important period for us.”Liverpool are now awaiting confirmation on schedules and venues after senior police chiefs raised concerns about the club playing any possible title-clinching match at Anfield or another team’s stadium. All matches will be played behind closed doors and it was suggested Liverpool may have to move to a neutral venue in a bid to stop fans gathering outside.“That’s what we were all waiting for,” Klopp said. “But now it’s always like this. You were waiting for that, somebody tells us we could start, that’s good.“Now we know, from a training point of view, what we have to do when and when we have to be at 100 per cent in the best way, how we can train in different intensities. That was very important.“Now, of course, it’s more and more interesting when we play where, the times are really important because we will see how we can organise the travel stuff.”last_img read more

first_imgRobins: Man Utd board must give Solskjaer timeby Paul Vegas13 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveFormer Manchester United FA Cup winner Mark Robins says the board must be patient with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.Robins, now manager of League One outfit Coventry City, believes that Solskjaer must be given plenty of time to implement his philosophy on the playing squad.”What he’s trying to do is reinstall the values that he felt as a player and that were there under Sir Alex,” he told Sky Sports.”He needs time to do that. If you remember when Sir Alex took over, it was six years before that started to take an effect.”I don’t think you get that times these days but I think the board will be patient. As long as they can see things moving forward in the right way they will be patient.”Clearly you need to get results alongside that. Ole knows that but the noises coming out of there and what is being said, they seem happy, the players seem happy, it seems a happier camp.”Things can turn quickly but you need results to maintain it. I hope he gets that time and he gets the backing in the transfer market because it’s going to take a long time to get them back to where they were.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgBeijing: In a bid to curb piracy, China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba has come up with ‘video fingerprints’ technology that gives each original video a unique online identity. Short videos have become a popular form of advertisement for sellers on Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms Taobao and Tmall. But the videos are often left unpatented due to a cumbersome process, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday. To curb this malpractice, Alibaba’s security lab has created ‘fingerprints’ for all original videos on Taobao and Tmall, said He Yuan, a senior algorithm expert at the lab. Businesses participating in the project can upload their videos and have ‘fingerprints’ generated automatically. Once qualified as an original video, any other videos with high similarity will be reported to the business owner. After being online for about a month, more than 7,000 businesses have signed up to participate in the project, said Alibaba.last_img read more
