first_imgToday the number of web browsers you have to choose from grew by one. Yandex, a Russian company best known for its search engine, has launched the Yandex Browser. As with any new software launch, it’s not going to be as mature an offering as the competition who have had browsers available for years, but that’s not to say the Yandex Browser hasn’t got a lot to offer.Version 1.0 is a 28MB download and is available right now from the link below. It promises to offer up a super-simple interface and the prerequisite fast page loading. Searching is done through the address bar, also known as the Smartbox, and it is capable of translating web pages into 9 different languages. If you like Yandex enough to make it your default browser then there’s easy import options for your settings. One feature that may sell the browser to a few security conscious people is the built-in web page scanning provided by Kaspersky Lab. Every page you visit will be checked for malicious content, and every download will be scanned to ensure it is safe.Yandex is classing its browser as “cloud-based” as a way of describing the built-in security combined with very fast page loading. This is due to a combination of already proven technology and tech partners. As mentioned, Kaspersky is providing the security, the browser uses the Webkit engine, the user interface uses the Chromium code, and the fast page loading stems from a partnership with Opera Software to use its Turbo technology. While Yandex is effectively new, it’s just bringing together bits of tech you are probably already used to using in other browsers. Yandex has basically cherry-picked the best bits, and that’s no bad thing.Download the Yandex Browserlast_img read more
