Sergio Romero (goalkeeper) It’s a huge game for Man United at Old Trafford. In the first of two legs, the Red Devils play Belgian club Brugge, with the winner progressing to the Champions League group stage. So it makes sense for manager Louis van Gaal to play a strong side as he attempts to guide United to football’s Promised Land for the first time since the 2013/14 season.Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is nearing full fitness and could be 100 per cent ready to start against Newcastle at the weekend, so Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin may still partner each other.Considering what’s at stake, it seems unlikely Van Gaal will change too much from Friday night’s win against Aston Villa, though Ashley Young’s experience could see him return at Adnan Januzaj’s expense.Click the arrow above, right, to see the possible XI and let us know if you agree. 18. Mike Williamson 1 Newcastle United have recalled Mike Williamson from his loan spell at Wolves. The defender moved to the Championship club in October and was due to remain with the Midlands side until January. However, the 32-year-old has now been recalled by Newcastle after Jamaal Lascelles suffered a minor hamstring strain during Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace. That injury left Magpies boss Steve McClaren short on centre-backs and it is hoped that Williamson’s return will fill the void. The Englishman could go straight into the side for this weekend’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
5 5 1. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) – see more of the latest transfer rumours on Manchester United by clicking the arrow above, right – United’s interest in Bale stretches back to David Moyes’ short tenure in Manchester, and he firmly remains on their transfer wish list under Louis van Gaal. The Wales ace won’t come cheap, but having been cash-friendly over the past two seasons, it’s not too farfetched to think the Red Devils could go all out and test the resolve of Real. 2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – Red Devils to tempt Portuguese back to Old Trafford? – Bale isn’t the only player from the Santiago Bernabeu the Red Devils are monitoring, but this one is slightly more familiar. Ronaldo is constantly linked with a return to Old Trafford and, as with Bale, United are currently preparing a lucrative offer for the Portugal captain. The 31-year-old has recently insisted he is happy with Los Blancos, but it doesn’t seem to have deterred interest. 5 Manchester United could address their ‘boring’ style of football in the January transfer window, should the reports be believed. It has recently been claimed the Red Devils want to add ‘two elite players’ to their squad.Could it be Gareth Bale and Neymar?Click the arrow above, right, to find out along with all the other rumours.MAN UNITED TEAM NEWS: PREDICTED SIDE TO PLAY BOURNEMOUTH IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE 5 5 3. John Stones (Everton) – United to make Toffees star world’s most expensive defender? – Look away now, Chelsea fans! Nearing the end of the summer transfer window, Stones handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Stamford Bridge. The Toffees stood firm, however, and it now seems the Blues will have to compete with more clubs should their interest remain. United are allegedly readying a record-breaking £50m offer, which if accepted, would make the 21-year-old the most expensive defender in the world. 4. Neymar (Barcelona) – La Liga giants to be tested with £150m bid in January? – The Red Devils have been linked with a staggering £150m move for Neymar, and are even prepared to table the world-record bid in January. However, reports suggest that United are worried the intensity of the Premier League may not appeal to the forward. 5. Wayne Rooney – United captain to move abroad? – It seems the England international’s Old Trafford exit could happen sooner rather than later. Reports claim that Chinese side Shanghai SIPG are the latest club interested in prising Rooney away from the Premier League, and they are preparing an offer of £25m per-year over three years to tempt him the striker to sign a deal.

5. Sign a young and hungry defensive midfielder – Click the right arrow for more… – Francis Coquelins injury leaves the Gunners relying on Mathieu Flamini to hold together the midfield. The 31-year-old hasnt fouled up yet but didnt make a single successful tackle against Manchester City and had it not been for some excellent work by Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and others, Arsenal could have found themselves drawing a game they deserved to win. A youngster coming in to learn from Flamini and Coquelin could reap rewards in the short and long term. 5 1. Give the ball to Mesut Ozil – The German has got the knack of delivering for the Gunners right now. They may only have been short passes last night against Man City but his two assists were still devastating. The moves displayed the subtlety and skill of his innate ability to provide for his team-mates. For Girouds goal, the way Ozil spins and opens up his body gives him the opportunity to play in either the Frenchman or Aaron Ramsey, meaning Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala must cover both. In the end his pass picks out Giroud who does the rest. And it was the same for Walcotts goal. One swift movement allowed him to open his body, giving him four options for his next pass. It was a simple one to Walcott but it was perfect. Keep feeding the ex-Real Madrid man, even when Alexis Sanchez returns, and he might well be assisting Arsenal to a Premier League title win. 5 5 2. Get the best out of Aaron Ramsey – Click the right arrow for more… – With injuries depleting the Gunners in recent weeks, the Welshman has been given a starting slot in central midfield. Good displays against Sunderland and Aston Villa followed but against Manchester City he looked frustrated and sloppier in possession, while seeing less of the ball too. He also missed the target with two of his three shots which, had Man City been more clinical in the closing stages, could have cost Arsenal dear. Perform against the big teams and Ramsey could be key to a title win. Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City confirmed they’re favourites to win the Premier League title this season. An assured performance from the Gunners saw goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud hand them all three points at the Emirates, despite Yaya Toure’s late strike, which had supporters squirming in their seats.Arsene Wenger’s men have fumbled their way into form this season, particularly after being disrupted by defeats to West Ham, Chelsea and West Brom.Draws with Norwich and rivals Tottenham didn’t help matters and their Champions League slip ups against Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb almost cost them dear. Now, three Premier League wins on the trot see them sitting in second place, just two points behind shock leaders Leicester City and four ahead of defeated opponents City.So what do the Gunners need to do to keep their title bid back on track, talkSPORT takes a look.Click the right arrow above to find out what Arsenal must do to win the 2015/16 Premier League… 4. Get the squad fit and keep them healthy – Click the right arrow for more… – Forever the banes of Arsene Wengers existence, injuries, in recent years, have derailed the Gunners at every turn. Now, with seven stars out – the joint fourth most in the Premier League – they are at risk of having their hopes of winning the title dashed again. Getting Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Francis Coquelin back soon will harness benefits, while Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck could hand them a boost later in the campaign. 3. Put their faith in Olivier Giroud – Click the right arrow for more… – For years now, fans have craved a world class striker to lead the line at the Emirates. Players like Karim Benzema have been coveted with fans going barmy online as they seek the superstar they believe they need. In truth, they already have that man. Giroud might miss the odd gilt-edged chance but the Frenchman has been consistent and effective in front of goal. In each of his four campaigns hes hit double figures. Last year he nabbed 14 in just 27 appearances and this time has already scored 10 times in 17 matches. His defensive contribution was superb against Man City too as he made two tackles at vital points. Forget signing a replacement, hes hitting his peak and is starring against top teams too. 5 5
Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has admitted their defeat to Arsenal has left him angry and disappointed. The Magpies put in a good performance against the Gunners and chances to score with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum squandering opportunities. The Gunners eventually claimed a 1-0 win with Laurent Koscielny grabbing the goal, and it left McClaren rueing his side’s ability in front of goal.He said: “We came here against the league leaders and I don’t think many teams will come here and dominate a game and create chances like we did today. We shouldn’t have lost the game but we have. We’re bewildered again.“We had chances to win the game, which would have been a major upset but I couldn’t fault the players. They were fantastic for 95 minutes. Their spirit and their work ethic [was good] and they controlled the game. They didn’t get the rewards today.“I’d be more worried if we weren’t performing like that but we are disappointed again. We’re angry and disappointed because we had opportunities.“We need to stick the ball in the back of the net. That’s your job and you’ve got to do it. We’re not quite ruthless enough.”
Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as Real Madrid head coach certainly appears to be the popular decision.Rafael Benitez, who was fired on Monday after several setbacks during his brief spell in charge in the Spanish capital, was never compatible with either the club president’s or fans’ mantra. But Zidane – widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation – personifies the attacking and stylish philosophy Madrid want to invoke. And some of the biggest names in football agree with the sentiment, with many of them taking to social media to wish Zidane well:David Beckham clearly approved: Suerte Zizou!! pic.twitter.com/BWk3PKzIEd— Xabi Alonso (@XabiAlonso) January 4, 2016 Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham A good decision! 😉👍 One of the greatest football players of all time is Real Madrid head coach now! ☺ All the best to Zizou!✊ #Zidane— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) January 5, 2016 2 As did Mesut Ozil: 2 And Didier Drogba echoed Alonso’s thoughts: Bonne chance grand frère!!!Good luck big bro#coach #madrid pic.twitter.com/Zw2xghfkxh— Didier Drogba (@didierdrogba) January 4, 2016 Xabi Alonso tweeted saying ‘Good luck Zizou!’:
Lincoln City goalkeeper Paul Farman will want to forget their 3-3 draw with Altrincham at the weekend after awful error. With his team leading 3-2 he decided to flick up a backpass as he attempted to clear the ball – but he didn’t reckon on Damian Reeves charging him down. The Robins star blocked the clearance and Farman could only watch in horror as the ball ended up in the back of his net.You can see the goalkeeper’s mistake in the video above…
AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREGame Center: Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, 10 a.m.But if the bullying ceased, prosecutors said Friday, Dillon Cossey’s anger did not. Cossey amassed dozens of BB guns, swords, knives and homemade explosives in his parents’ suburban Philadelphia home while quietly planning an attack at the local high school, authorities said. His MySpace page showed his admiration for the Columbine killers. In a stunning twist, prosecutors say Cossey’s mother provided her only child more firepower: a small-caliber handgun, a small-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle with a laser scope. “They (the parents) feel sorry for him. They were overindulgent,” Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said Friday, when Cossey and his mother, Michele, appeared in court on related charges. “I don’t think that they had any idea that he was dangerous,” Castor said. “She’s not any hardened criminal.” PENNSYLVANIA: Both of them face charges for the student’s alleged plot to attack high school. By Maryclaire Dale THE ASSOCIATED PRESS NORRISTOWN, Pa. – Tired of being bullied, an awkward, overweight middle-schooler left his peers behind last year in favor of home-schooling. Michele Cossey, 46, grimaced and wept Friday as a judge read the charges against her. Her son was arrested Wednesday after an acquaintance shared Dillon Cossey’s plan to attack Plymouth Whitemarsh High School with his own parents and then with police. Police searched Cossey’s bedroom and found the 9 mm rifle and about 30 air-powered guns modeled to look like higher-powered weapons, along with a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine attack in Colorado and violence-filled notebooks, Castor said. Montgomery County District Judge Paul Tressler on Friday ordered the teen held at a youth facility at least until he undergoes psychiatric testing. He also asked for academic progress reports on the teen, whom Castor described as a “smart kid” with “mental disturbances.” “I suspect that he was a target for bullies because he was overweight and not fully developed socially,” Castor said. “I also think that his mental illness would have exaggerated the effect of the bullying.” Dillon Cossey is charged as a juvenile with solicitation to commit terror and other counts. He was ordered held at a juvenile facility while he undergoes a psychiatric evaluation. Michele Cossey, who runs a deli near the county courthouse, declined to comment in court Friday, as did her husband Frank. A neighbor spoke well of them. “That family would not hurt anybody, the son included,” said Kathy Joslin, a lifelong friend.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
